Undergraduate Course Projects

Below is a list of projects that I have been involved in. Most projects were done as part of the final project for classes that I have taken at Olin College. For your convenience, they have been categorized by subject matter. Click on the following subjects below to view the projects in each category. Also feel free to click any of the projects to browse further details and pictures about each project.

Enjoy!

Mechanical Engineering & Material Science

Picture

Simple Mechanical Design

Design Nature, Fall 2012

The projects in this class encouraged students to design and build simple toys with basic mechanical mechanisms

Picture

Firefighting Robot
Mechanical Design, Fall 2014

The goal of this project was to execute the mechanical design for a firefighting robot
Picture

Airfoil Flutter
Dynamics, Fall 2013

The flutter of an airfoil was modeled and simulated and the model was then verified experimentally using a wind tunnel

Picture

Fluid Flow in a 2D Channel
Transport Phenomena, Fall 2014

Fluid flow in a 2D channel was modeled, simulated in COMSOL and then qualitatively verified experimentally
Picture

Building Bridges
MechSolids, Spring 2014

This was a 2-part project to design, build and test the strength of a bridge made of 2 different materials: spaghetti and popsicle sticks

Robotics

Picture

Dominobot
Principles of Engineering, Fall 2013

An autonomous domino-laying robot that follows a laser pointer using computer vision
Picture

The Great Tugboat Race
Fundamentals of Robotics, Fall 2014

The goal of this final project was to develop the software for an autonomous tug boat that could navigate the research pool, avoid obstacles and hit waypoints without human intervention

Product Design & Development

Picture

Living With Neuropathy
Engineering for Humanity, Spring 2013

The goal of this project was to design devices to ease the pain for an elderly couple with neuropathy
Picture

Volunteer Physicians
User-Oriented Design, Spring 2014

The goal of this project was to co-design a new product that volunteer physicians could use to more efficiently treat patients
Picture

NEADS System Design
Investigating Normal, Fall 2015

During this project, we worked with a non-profit called NEADS to study their operational processes and identify a solution that would improve their efficiency

Electrical/Software Engineering

Picture

Phototropic Servo Controller
Modeling & Control, Fall 2012

A servo controller that turned the wheel to point toward the light
Picture

The Chamelon Cube
Real World Measurements, Spring 2013

A cube that changed color to replicate the color of the surface that it is positioned on
Picture

Vehicle Data-Capture Software
Software Design, Fall 2013

Software to capture vehicle data such as accelerometer and IMU data

Data Science and Analysis

Picture

Analyzing Gait Data
Data Science, Spring 2015

This project analyzed the gait data of trial participants with multiple sclerosis to determine if a new type of ankle-foot orthotic was successfully correcting gait issues
Picture

Crowd Flow Modeling
PDEs, Spring 2015

Using Partial Differential Equations (PDEs), a model of 1-dimensional crowd flow was created
